Gramona 'Gessami' Blanc 2021
Region: Penedes, Spain
Grapes: Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer
Drinks Best: Now
The Gramona family have been producing wine for over two centuries including the regional specialty of Cava. Their stalwart commitment to quality and tradition is exemplified by the fact they are one of the few family estates remaining in an area dominated by large corporations. This is a charming and unique white blend in that it is not sparkling, and features grapes not associated with region or even the country of Spain. Mainly Muscat, bolstered with Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer, this wine is truly more than the sum of its parts.
This is an elegant and understated wine where the floral aromatics and ripe tropical fruit notes are restrained. Present but not overwhelming. The vines are fairly old 35-50 years and grown at elevation in limestone soils. This brings very acidity and crisp texture to the wine that balanced by the smallest hint of residual sugar that makes the wine so refreshing.

What do I like to drink?
I think my palate leans a little more traditional and Old World. I enjoy fresh acidity, pure fruit tones, and judicious use of oak. I do tend to drink my wines on the younger side because I enjoy their vibrant, primary fruit (or I’m just too impatient to wait). But the best wine is the wine someone else has paid for!
