This winery is named after the monastary of Tegernsee that was given the land in 1002 where the winery sits today.  Now in its 6th generation of private ownership under the Mittelbach family, Martin continues the work of his father Franz. This Grüner is sourced exclusively from the Höhereck vineyard. Just over one acre in size this parcel lies on steep terraces with cold air from the Waldviertel flowing through. The unique vineyard location lends this wine its flinty minerality and wild, smoky character. The ‘Smaragd’ designation means that Martin let these grapes ripen further yet fermented the wine dry, creating a rich, and full-flavored Grüner with notes of concentrated citrus and juicy peaches that are balanced with white pepper spice.
