Founded in 1641, the Spreitzer estate is one of the oldest wineries in Rheingau. They focus on sustainable growing practices and planting rotating cover crops to ensure the health of the ecosystem. Their winemaking operations are solar-powered, and their tasting room is heated by geothermal tranfers. In the summer, they plant herbs and green lentils, and, in the winter, they plant grains, so, clearly, sustainable practices are of utmost importance at Spreitzer. This is their entry level Riesling, and it shows of the power of fruit from the Rheingau while still holding elegance and structure. ‘101’ is off-dry, meaning slightly sweet, but is incredibly light and fresh. Flavors of green apple, peaches, and caramelized grapefruit complement a bright acidity and rich mouthfeel.
