While the Greeks have made wine for thousands of years, the wine has only hit the export market relatively recently. Because of this, there are many exciting and ancient varietals that Americans may not be familiar with but are certainly worthy of a place on your table. This Mandilaria is one of those wines. Skevofilax is a family winery that has been in business since 2010. They are located on the island of Kos, which has volcanic soils often found in island wines. These soils impart a rustic, earthy quality that is reminiscent of other island reds. The wine is aged 12 months in French oak barrels, which provides notes of chocolate and firm tannins. The balance between oak and fresh, red fruit makes this wine a can’t-miss!
