Region: Gattinara, Alto Piedmont, Italy Grape(s): Nebbiolo Drinks Best: Now - 10 Years
The historic Nervi estate, the oldest active winery in Gattitinara, possesses some of the most prized vineyards in the Alto Piedmont. Recently, seeking to push the quality to further heights, owner Erling Astrup sold the estate to Robert Conterno who crafts some of the most sought after wines at his Giacomo Conterno estate just south in Barolo. Taking his generational knowledge of Nebbiolo, this wine is not only stunning, but a stunning value given that Conterno’s top namesake wines can fetch well over $1000 a bottle. Aromas of rose, wild cherry, kirsch, tobacco and leather that extend through its lengthy finish are the hallmarks of this elegant and balanced red.
Pairings: Classic roasted turkey with a bread stuffing heavy on the sage
