In 1998, Ismael Gozalo began a personal project outside of his family’s winery, Viñedos de Nieva. In this region, Verdejo is mass produced and highly industrialized, but Ismael takes the road less travelled to focus on the terroir of Rueda and make fresh, minimal intervention wines. ‘Correcaminos,’ which means ‘roadrunner’ in Spanish, is unfiltered and bottled with no chemical additives. With intense aromas of white peaches and orange blossom, this wine is easy to drink with bright acidity, saline minerality, and an interesting nuttiness that emerges from slight, intentional oxidation.
