Mallory's Notes:

One thing about me - I love wines made of esoteric grapes from obscure regions. If I’ve never heard of it, I want to try it! Recently, I have gotten really into wines from Eastern Europe as we are finally seeing these regions represented more in the NC wine market. This white comes to us from the south-western part of Bosnia & Herzegovina about an hour drive from the Croatian coastline. Since 2005, the Skegro family has been organically cultivating their terraced vineyards along with fig, citrus, and olive trees which offers biodiversity and supports the erosion of the rocky soils.

The grape Žilavka may be completely new to you, however the palate is actually quite approachable and classic. Aromas of peach pit, dried white flowers, and a soft nutty richness introduces a medium-bodied palate of melon and apricot with beautifully balanced acidity and a salty, mineral-driven finish. This is the perfect winter white to drink on its own or alongside your favorite dinner at home!

What's Cooking?

Fresh pita bread, baba ganoush, and dolmas (stuffed grape leaves)

What do I like to drink?

Finally the cooler weather is upon us! I'm taking home more and more reds this time of year, however I love a full-bodied white this season as well. Beaujolais, Northern Italy, and Slovenia are regions I gravitate towards as the weather cools off and the holidays approach. I can never say no to a delicious orange wine either!
