The term “Jolie-Laide” originates in France, and loosely translates into “unconventionally beautiful.” That’s precisely what winemaker Scott Schultz is going for with his wines – sourced from grapes and places that are unconventional for California, and crafting wines of beauty. The 2023 edition of his Pinot Gris is sourced from the Suisun Valley, just east of the Napa Valley. This wine’s soft pink color comes from gently crushing the grapes by foot followed by a few days of cold soaking prior to fermentation. Beautifully aromatic notes of cantaloupe, stone fruit, and bergamot lead to a silky, lush palate with perfectly balanced acidity - another outstanding vintage from Jolie-Laide.
