Scott Schultz only makes 500 cases of wine a year with a featured artist for each vintage. Jolie-Laide literally means “ugly-beauty,” and expresses Schultz’s goal of making distinctive, unconventionally beautiful wines. To that end, he practices natural winemaking techniques such as minimal use of sulphur, and crushing grapes by foot. This grenache is from vineyards in the Bennett Valley, bordering Sonoma Mountain. High elevation steep slopes of rocky volcanic soils play beautifully with cool, foggy mornings and Pacific breezes to produce a feminine and refreshingly acidic style of grenache. Expect flavors of red raspberries and strawberries with nuances of cinnamon stick and licorice.
