Region: Zonda Valley, San Juan, Argentina Grape(s): 95% Malbec, 5% Tannat Winemaker: Duncan Killiner Drinks Best: Now - 5 Years
For years, winemaker and Jelu Estate co-founder Duncan Killiner traveled the world chasing harvest seasons in order to get personally involved with as many different terroirs as possible. After 80 harvests in 10 years, he decided to settle down in Argentina, feeling it had outstanding potential to produce terroir driven wines. His organic and biodynamically farmed vineyards in San Juan see plenty of dry heat, but the elevation ensures just the right amount of evening cool for ideal growing conditions. This medium-bodiedMalbec boasts aromas of blueberry pie with a hint of clove and cedar. The rich, velvety palate is loaded with ripe blackberry, cinnamon, black pepper, and moderate tannins on the earthyfinish.
Pairings: Grilled tri-tip steak served with chimichurri, of course!
