The Hofstatter winery takes its name from Josef Hofstatter who founded the operation in 1907. But it was not until long-time employee Konrad Oberhofer married into the family and took over operations in the 1940s that the estate starting bottling its own wine and producing on single vineyard selections. The estate saw another period of growth when the Foradoris (legendary winemakers) married into the family. This brought a collection of great vineyards and experience into the fold. ‘Meczan’ is labeled with both Blauburgunder and Pinot Nero, both of which are synonyms for Pinot Noir. This is a light, fresh style with lots of red berryfruit, baking spices, and refreshing acidity to balance the juicy palate.
