With its steep terraced cliffs, the Ribeira Sacra resembles some of the most well regarded winegrowing regions in the world. Despite its favorable terrain for grape growing, the area did not receive official recognition until 1996. Among the first producers to join the new appellation, Pedro Rodríguez already had years of experience making wine on his family’s land, albeit in small quantities for local cantinas. The winery is named for Pedro’s grandfather, a nickname that translates to “rebel” in the local Gallegos dialect. This wine is an homage to his early winemaking days, a fresh and approachable red made from the local grape Mencía kept unoaked to highlight the lush black cherry fruit and subtle earthiness.
