For their ‘Albe’ Barolo, Vajra blends fruit from their Bricco delle Viole, La Volta, and Coste di Vergne vineyards, all of which are well situated in the village of Barolo. The wine is named for the sunrise (“Alba”), which you can witness at three distinct moments in the same morning from each vineyard. The different expositions of these sites translates to a wine that is balanced, complex, and fresh, with juicy red cherry, Nebbiolo’s textbook rose petal and tar aromas, and sweet baking spice. ‘Albe’ is routinely among the best values among affordable Barolo, drastically outperforming more expensive wines from less experienced producers.
