It has always been Stephane Defraine’s dream to establish a winemaking estate that could be passed down through generations after him. Chateau Fontenille sits on vineyards in Bordeaux that have been farmed since the 13th century, and his daughter, Macha, is now picking up the reigns to turn production in a new direction. Harvesting only from sites undergoing organic conversion, her La Coucoute label is all about the experimental. This Cabernet Franc sees no oak and has a playfulness that is atypical for Bordeaux wines. Vibrant raspberry fruit and spice pair with the hallmark violet and pepper of the varietal on a soft, easy drinking palate.
