While it’s impossible to trace the beginning of the ‘natural wine’ movement to any one producer, there can be little debate that Jean Foillard, along with three of his friends and colleagues in Beaujolais, were absolutely pioneers and paragons of the movement. This wine is his flagship, a cuvée sourced not just from Morgon with all of the hallmarks of earth, body, and structure that the cru is known for. All of the fruit is sourced from parcels in the vaunted Côte du Py, a block of vineyards all on a single hillside of decomposed schist and granite. This is Morgon dialed up to 11 - lush black cherry fruit with layers of aromatics of crushed violet and rose, and stern earthen core.
