Pierre-Emmanuel Sangouard and his wife Catherine are both fifth generation wine legacies. Pierre-Emmanuel assumed control of his grandfather’s estate, which began in the mid 19th century, in 1997 and merged with Catherine’s parents’ estate several years later. Together they focus on hand-harvested Chardonnay to express the diverse terroir of their holdings. ‘Ancestral’ is produced from 50-year-old vines planted on soil dominated by clay which provides this wine with its’ richness and structure. Aged for 10 months in 3-5 year old barrels, there is a touch of oak on the palate that is perfectly balanced by the crisp acidity and ripe fruit flavors of golden apple, lemon zest, and tropical fruit.
