Domaine Charleux was founded in 1894 by Ferdinand Charleux, just southwest of the town of Santenay. Passed from father to son for four generations, the domaine has slowly and carefully expanded their vineyard holding in and around Santenay and Maranges. Today the family farms the land very similar to the way Ferdinand did more than 120 years ago – hand plows, grass cover crops, and minimal intervention in the cellar. Sourced from Maranges, a region that forms a link between the Côte-d’Or and the Saône-et-Loire, this Pinot Noir has lovely concentration and power. The oak influence is well integrated with fine tannins and notes of black pepper and warm baking spices that are balanced with flavors of red currant and preserved cherries.
