Domaine de la Madone was founded in the 1960s, just south of Beaujolais’ cru villages. Brothers Olivier and Bruno Bererd farm hillside vineyards that they describe as “perilously steep, far too dangerous for tractors.” These vineyards rise to some of the highest elevations in the region at 1,600 - 2,000 feet above sea level. With a north-facing exposition, this site yields Chardonnay with freshness and focus, and aromas of white flowers, citrus rind, pear, and ripe apricot. Fruit is hand harvested and ferments with indigenous yeasts. 15% of the wine ages in French oak barrel, which adds texture and a subtle notion of baking spices.
