Julien Ilbert produces ‘Le Pur Fruit’ from old vines grown on his family’s estate. Prior to 1998, in addition to growing grapes, the Ilbert family raised cows and grew cereal grains to sell at the local co-op. Since then, Julien has taken over the family farm, planted almost exclusively Malbec vines, and, less than 10 years later, has begun producing his own wines. In contrast to the more common style of Cahors, his is lighter, fresher, and a great representation of the limestone vineyards and cooler temperatures of the Lot River terroir. ‘Le Pur Fruit’ is exactly that – purity of the Malbec fruit. Raspberry, currant, and black cherry join an earthen, musty nose and a juicy, almost effervescent palate.
