Castello di Verduno dates back to the early 16th century with the castle located in the northern reaches of Barolo. Verduno quietly became the place to be for farming world-class Nebbiolo grapes, but it wasn’t until the end of the 19th century that the Bianco family started producing stunning wine from indigenous grapes of the Piedmont from their own estate. The lesser known Pelaverga grape is only grown in Verduno, where the locals call it ‘Basadone’ – or little kiss – due to local lore that this small grape is a natural aphrodisiac. Wild cherry and a pop of tart raspberry compliments the perfumed, herbal nose. Unoaked, this wine is fresh and vibrant and delightfully structured.
Pairings: Farro salad with grape tomatoes, sliced cold salumi, and shaved parmesan
