Region: Trittenheim, Mosel, Germany Vineyard: Apotheke Grape(s): Riesling Winemaker: Eva Clüsserath-Wittman Drinks Best: Now - 7 years
Since the 1670s, the Clüsserath name has been a byword for quality wine in the Mosel. Now under the tenure of Eva Clüsserath, they are known for producing some of the finest Riesling in Germany. The Apotheke vineyard is their crown jewel, located in their home village of Trittenheim with a southern exposure that allows the slate soil to drink in the sunlight and store heat. But it is a treacherous parcel sitting at a 65% gradient and the hand harvesting they do is not for the faint of heart. Aromas and flavors of white peach and lime zest are accented with white floral notes and deep minerality with a refreshing sweetness that gives balance to the powerful acidity making it as bright and frisky as a mountain stream.
