Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne 2018
Region: Meursault, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France Vineyard: Clos de la Baronne Grape(s): Chardonnay Winemaker: Dominique Lafon Drinks Best: Now - 15 Years
Despite not containing any Grand Cru ranked vineyards, Meursault is often, and rightly, talked about in contention of being the best, most opulent, and most expressive Chardonnay on earth. The Lafon family is synonymous with the village of Meursault and Dominique has continued his family’s reputation for excellence. The Clos de la Baronne is a lieu-dit, single plot wine, that punches at the 1er cru level, recently acquired in 2010 after years of courtship. Though new to Lafon, Dominique farms and vinifies the wine with expert touch that has attracted attention of the oenophile world. A perfumed nose of white flowers, yellow plum, and citrus peel lead to a perfectly balanced palate with plenty of energy and acidity to match flavors of lemon and a touch of ginger on the finish.
