Region: Pfalz, Germany Grape(s): Riesling Winemaker: Stephan Attman Drinks Best: Now - 3 Years
A historic estate founded in 1849, Von Winning is experiencing a renaissance with a young, ambitious team helmed by Stephan Attman. Working with some of the top vineyard sites in the Pfalz, they are producing wines that showcase breathtaking complexity. The Pfalz benefits from a rain shadow effect similar to Alsace, where the warm, dry weather helps grapes achieve higher ripeness levels. The ‘Winnings’ Riesling, crafted with the consult of legendary winemaker Hans-Günter Schwarz, is neither bone dry nor frankly sweet. It sports a kiss of residual sugar to lift the peach fruit and balance the racy acidity. Aromatic herbs back the gorgeous stone fruit by way of sage and mint.
Pairings: Sausage and peppers - the spicier the better
