Winemaker Michael Cruse has earned himself quite a dedicated following in a very short time, and like a lot of “overnight successes”, it was decades in the making. He’s University educated (Berkeley and UC Davis, microbiology), and his traditional science training combined with a dedication to turn of the century, low tech winemaking has yielded spectacular results. The Monkey Jacket blend features heritage varieties that were common in California prior to Prohibition, yet nearly lost in the ensuing decades. The wine showcases vibrant
red cherries,
floral and
earthen on the nose and palate, and a
brambly, savory finish that’s accentuated by a
pop of fresh fruit - especially when chilled.
