The origins of Remelluri’s estate are lost in the mists of time. Home first to an 11th c. necropolis, upon which Hieronymite monks later built a shrine, the valley of Valderemelluri has sheltered people for many centuries. The Rodríguez family has now taken it upon themselves to restore the land to its former glory, before the time it was confiscated, parceled off, and sold to the highest bidders after the Spanish Civil War. Their Gran Reserva is made only in the best years, in very small quantities. Over two years of aging in French oak provides complex aromas of charred wood and cocoa to go along with mushroom and dried black currant. The palate is elegant with an opulent texture, bold tannins, and deep flavors of plum, blackberry, and oaky spices.
