Region: Wagram, Lower Austria, Austria Grape(s): Zweigelt Winemaker: Paul Direder Drinks Best: Now - 2 Years
Paul has been a part of the family business since he was able to talk – the Austrian word for tractor, dador, was his first word. Learning from his ancestors as well as formally studying under other illustrious winemakers, like another shop favorite and his Wagram neighbor, Anton Bauer, Paul was able to take over the winery at the ripe, old age of 16. He creates beautiful, easy drinking wines that are meant for every-day enjoyment. His Zweigelt is an excellent example of Austria’s most widely grown red grape variety, featuring ample cherry and an intriguing savory herb palate. Its lively red fruit and juicy style makes for a versatile, liter-sized bottle that is perfect for sharing.
Pairings: Mortadella and Buffalomozzarella canapés
