Region: Irpinia, Campania, Italy Grape(s): Aglianico Drinks Best: Now - 4 Years
While the red wines of Central and Northern Italy bask in the glow of international acclaim and attention, the wines from the South are sadly often forgotten. Yet, some of the grapes from the South are capable of yielding wine as grand and noble as their cousins from the North. For example, Manimurci’s Aglianico from the Campania region is about as uniquely Italian as anything you’ll find. It features an ‘Old World’ nose of mushrooms and truffles overlaying ripeblackberry and plum fruit. On the palate, the earth and the fruit meld seamlessly with pleasing acidity and mild tannin to create a delightful full-bodied wine.
