If the irreverent label and fanciful name don’t grab your attention, we’re confident the wine inside will. It’s a project by second-generation winemaker Maria Pato who is focused on using exclusively traditional Portuguese grapes with minimal intervention and natural farming in her home, coastal region of Bairrada. The ‘Nerd Duck’ is primarily Fernão Pires a white grape, but is red thanks to several days of skin contact and co-fermentation with the red grape, Baga. The resulting wine has minimal tannin, making it ideal for a mild chill and easy consumption. Wild strawberry, cranberry and herbal notes of sage, bay leaf, and rosemary lead into a lovely light-bodied, food-friendly palate.
