It is not hyperbole to say that this rosé from the original estate bought by Marcel Ott in the late 1800’s is one of the world’s most desired rosés, vintage after vintage. The three estates owned and operated by the Ott family represent the pinnacle of Provençal rosé. At the dawn of the 20th century, Marcel Ott left the mountainous countryside of Alsace and fell in love with the sun-soaked Mediterranean shores of the south of France.
The first ‘cult’ rosé, the unique bottle shape imitated by its neighbors, is actually an homage to the clay amphora that Marcel bottled his wine in to keep it cool in the warm climate. This particular blend of special plots within Bandol, the benchmark rosé appellation, makes up the 'Chateau Romassan' cuvée.
It displays vibrant strawberry, orange zest and peach aromas, along with zesty mineral and orange zest inflections. Dry and precise on the palate, offering fresh red berry and pit fruit flavors that put on weight as the wine opens. The mineral quality comes back on the finish, adding drive and delineation to lingering pit fruit notes.
