In 1980 friends Cilia, Occhipinti, and Strano together bought a small parcel in Southern Sicily with the common goal of making wine reminiscent of their ancestors. The trio epitomizes natural winemakers - chemical pesiticides or fertilizes are never used in their vineyards and aging takes place in sustainable, large clay vats, called amphoras, that date back to Egyptian-era winemaking. ‘Ramì’ spends 15 days macerating on the skins giving the final wine a golden-amber color and a full, rich texture. Aromas of overripe cantaloupe, tomato leaf, and yellow flowers lead to a palate with flavors of bruised apple and melon with a soft, structured finish and perfectly balanced acidity.
