Géraldine Laval, a French native who grew up just outside of Bordeaux, studied viticulture and oenology with two of the most famous and respected winemakers in the world - Olivier Leflaive in Burgundy and Jean Louis Chave in Hermitage - prior to starting her own project, Clos Maïa. Today, Géraldine organically farms about 13 acres of vines and takes a minimal intervention approach in the cellar. ‘Le Petit Clos Maïa’ is a blend of classic Rhône grapes - Syrah, Cinsault, and Carignan - that are fermented and aged in cement tanks for 1 year. Earthy and spicy aromas introduce a medium-bodied palate boasting notes of blackberry, plum, and soft, peppery tannins.
