Tristan's Notes:

I am getting old. Less than 10 years ago Beaujolais cost half as much and was far more plentiful. Only wine people in the know drank it, but then something happened. The word somehow got out and more folks recognized the outstanding quality of wine at a fraction of the price of Burgundy just to north. Now the good stuff is allocated, pre-sold, or otherwise impossible to come by. So, I always feel a little bittersweet joy when we receive word that we are about to receive a precious clutch of fantastic Beaujolais from one of our favorite producers.

And Foillard is definitely one of my favorites. Part of Kermit Lynch’s original Gang of Four Beaujolais producers who lead the area’s quality revolution in the 1980s. This vintage is fantastic as always, or even the ‘bomb-dot-com,’ as my wife said when she first tried it. It’s light and fresh on the palate with juicy red fruit, gentle floral aromatics, and just a hint of granitic minerality.

What's Cooking?

Marinated skirt steak with patatas bravas and blistered shishito peppers

What do I like to drink?

I think my palate leans a little more traditional and Old World. I enjoy fresh acidity, pure fruit tones, and judicious use of oak. I do tend to drink my wines on the younger side because I enjoy their vibrant, primary fruit (or I’m just too impatient to wait). But the best wine is the wine someone else has paid for!
