Region: Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara, California Grapes: Zinfandel Drinks Best: Now - 5 Years
I am a total fangirl for Turley Wines. They release multiple different Zinfandels per year, some vineyard specific, Old Vines, Juvenile, etc. This particular cuvée from Pesenti Vineyard, located in Paso Robles, blew me and my palate away. The nose is bountiful in jammy dark red and purple fruit, a hint of floral notes (lavender first came to mind) and has an herbaceousness of fresh-slapped mint. The fruity carries onto the palate and is very well balanced with a high acidity, on par for Paso Robles, that leaves you coming back for more. Tis’ the season for big red wines!

What do I like to drink?
My personal order of operations tends to be to choose the wine first, and the food second. With that being said, I am going to naturally lean towards something that is higher in acidity and has plenty of fruit to stand up to food, but not overpower it. I drink it all from Vinho Verdes to a glass of a big Nebbiolo. But as the weather changes, so does my style of wine. Find me in the summer with Txakoli Rosé and in the winter with a bottle of Petite Sirah.
