The Höfstatter winery takes its name from Josef Höfstatter who founded the operation in 1907. But it was not until long-time employee Konrad Oberhofer married into the family and took over operations in the 1940s that the estate started bottling its own wine and producing single vineyard selections. The estate saw another period of growth when the Foradoris (legendary winemakers) married into the family. This brought a collection of great vineyards and experience into the fold. The Lagrein, a native and ancient varietal of this northernmost region, flaunts black raspberry fruit with hints of crushed black pepper. It’s medium bodied and carries freshness throughout, making it an excellent partner for food.
