Domaine du Grand Montmirail 'Les Deux Juliette' Gigondas 2020
Region: Gigondas, Southern Rhône, Rhône Valley, France Grape(s): 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvédre Winemaker: Denis and Yves Cheron Drinks Best: Now - 3 Years
Denis Cheron acquired Domaine du Grand Montmirail after moving to the Southern Rhône in the 1960s from Burgundy's Côte de Nuits where Pinot Noir is king. There, his winemaker philosophy was born crafting wines that transparently reflect regional terroir through the expression of the grape without heavy-handed intervention in the cellar. Therefore he makes this cuvée without any oak influence to exhibit the purity of the fruit. This classic Southern Rhône blend boasts explosive aromas of kirsch, licorice, pepper, and baking spices along with soft floral notes. Fleshy fruit notes of currants and cherry on the palate introduce velvety tannins and balanced acidity with a long finish.
Pairings: Braised lamb cheeks with mushrooms over pappardelle
