The Elderton vineyards date back over a century to 1894 when German settlers planted grapes in the valley, however it wasn’t until 1979 that the Ashmead family took over the derelict and abandonded property in the middle of Nurioopta in an effort to restore the land. Years of backbreaking labor later, second generation brothers Cameron and Allister have become leaders of a quality revolution in Barossa and Australia. Today, Elderton wines demonstrate that big, rich, full-bodied wine can also be perfectly balanced, food friendly, and elegant. Licorice, vanilla, and plum are at the forefront, followed by spice from some time spent in oak, and firm tannin.
