Region: Chitry, Burgundy, France Grape(s): Pinot Noir Winemaker: Marcel Giraudon Drinks Best: Now
The wines of Chitry, a viticultural commune of the Auxerrois, actually has more in common with the vineyards of Chablis than those of the more southerly Cote d’Or.The soil is Kimmeridgian, the air is cool and, being closer in proximity to Chablis, the wines are lighter and brigher, but what they lack in weight they make up for in aromatics. Marcel Giraudon’s Pinot Noir is floral and bright with a chalky, fresh minerality that is true to the terrior. The Giraudon family has been farming in Chitry for centuries with care for the land and focus on producing excellent wines for the money.
