Barbera is king in Monferrato, where it was historically regarded as the everyday wine, inseparable from food. Simple, humble stuff. The Bologna family, owners of Braida, were among the core group of growers that knew there was potential for so much more from this classically Piemontese grape. Premium vineyards, low yields, and careful attention in the cellar are key at Braida. ‘Montebruna’ features rich, palate-saturating dark plum, and super ripe black cherry, along with accents of new leather and dried flowers. It is weighty and structured, with lively acidity. It easily supports the judicious oak influence that comes from spending one year in large barrel.
