Grape(s): 50% Chardonnay, 50% Riesling Winemaker: Peter Gönc Drinks Best: Now - 2 years
Gönc winery takes its name from both the family that owns and operates the vineyards as well as the name for the classic 136-liter barrel that has traditionally been used in Slovenian winemaking. Peter, who currently helms the operation, is the fourth generation of the Gönc family to oversee the organic farming and natural winemaking practiced at his estate. This wine sees 42 days of maceration on the skins and 15 months on the lees which provides a lush, rich texture and glowing amber color. Aromas of warm clove, orange oil, and pine needles introduce flavors of white pepper, woodsy herbs, and dried citrus peel on the palate. The gentle tannins and vibrant acidity make 'Starman' an excitingly unique and delicious orange wine.
