Domaine de Majas Rouge 2024

At the western end of the Roussillon in the Pyrenees, the state is France but the culture and tradition are Catalan.  The wines themselves have flavors closer to those of Spain, but with more French-inspired finesse and balance, depending on the producer.  This is certainly true of Anges and Alain Carrere’s wines at Domaine de Majas. They farm 75 acres, organically since 2007, with vineyards at 1300 feet above sea level. With a slightly cooler climate than most vineyards in this otherwise sun-baked region, their blend shows a great balance of barnyard earth and  bright red fruit with a cranberry-raspberry pop on the finish. 

Pairings: Spaghetti with Bottarga sprinkled with toasted garlic bread crumbs
