The Mattern vineyard is a staple of the Talmage Bench area of Mendocino. It was planted in the 1930s on gravelly loam soil. The old vines there are both head-trained and dry-farmed by the Mattern family who live on the property. The vineyard become Certified CCOF Organic and Demeter Biodynamic in 2018. Fermented naturally with native yeasts, Ultraviolet’s Zinfandel then spends 12 months in neutral French Oak barrels where it goes through malolactic conversion to create a silkier, more rounded mouthfeel. Ultraviolet’s Zinfandel offers lush dark berry flavors with hints of black pepper, licorice, and a touch of smoky oak, balanced by bright acidity and soft tannins for a vibrant finish.
