The Cosenza family founded Poggio di Bortolone at the end of the 18th century, but it wasn’t until the middle of the 20th that Pierluigi’s grandfather purchased two additional farms that the contemporary estate was formed. Then in 1976 his father, Ignazio, stopped selling his fruit in bulk to the local winemaking cooperative to make estate bottled wine. Finally in 2009 Pierluigi put his own stamp on the family property, modernizing the winemaking facility with state of the art technology. He still makes his wines with traditional methods like using native rather than packaged, inoculated yeasts. This lively, fresh wine shows a melange of ripe berries such as on the nose and the palate with very little tannins.
