Since 2005, when Kevin O’Connor and Matt Licklider first discussed making their own wine in the back alley of Spago Beverly Hills, Lioco has been a model for fresh, elegant food pairing wines from great California vineyards. Matt and his wife Sara now run the operation and continue turning out deliciously complex wines from grapes sourced from small, independent growers. This is the first year making this particular Pinot Noir, a blend of some of the top vineyards in Mendocino County. Certainly more than the sum of its parts, it shows crunchy red fruits like cranberry and cherry backed with a hint of smoke and notes of toasted spices.
