Region: Vouvray, Touraine, Loire Valley, France Grape: Chenin Blanc Winemaker: Catherine Champalou Drinks Best: Now - 5 Years
The Vouvray appellation shows off the versatility of Chenin Blanc better than any other appellation in the Loire Valley. Catherine and Didier Champalou founded their estate over 20 years ago, planting a mere half-hectare parcel that they have since grown to 20 organically farmed hectares. The wine represents the sec (dry) style of Chenin Blanc, and shows a flowery nose with aromas of apple and pear. The palate has a vegetal component that compliments the fruit flavors. It finishes with fresh limestone minerality, completing an outstanding, balanced example of what Chenin Blanc can be in expert hands.
