Steve Matthiasson, nominated for a prestigious James Beard, believes that winemaking is a ‘natural extension of farming.’ He and his family own and work on seven vineyards in Napa Valley and Sonoma using site-specific methods of farming to develop intense fruits. His Phoenix vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied, loaded with lush red cherry and black currant joined by bay leaf and baked-earth nuances that build on the palate and linger on the finish. Great acid balance and moderate tannins will preserve this wine for many years to come as it develops even more complexity.
