Azelia is located in the heart of Barolo and is run by fourth and fifth generation winemakers Luigi and Lorenzo Scavino. Their ‘classico’ Barolo blends fruit from vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba. Serralunga fruit delivers Barolo’s classically structured tannins and dark fruit, while the Castiglione fruit lends a fresh red fruit component, along with depth and complexity. The wine spends two years in large cask, helping to create a relatively open-knit and inviting wine with fine grained tannins. Textbook aromas and flavors of red cherry, black currants, and licorice are on display. This wine is a perennial best value among modestly priced Barolo.
