The story of Lacroix is the story of visionary winemaker Jonathan Maltus, an Englishman born in Africa making wine in Bordeaux and selling it in the United States. If that sounds like an unlikely story, it is. It begins with Jonathan selling everything to tend vines on the storied right bank of Bordeaux, doing the painstaking work of successfully revitalizing a long-ignored farm and winery, Chateau Teyssier. Lacroix, named after the stone cross located at the entrance of the now booming Teyssier, is Jonathan’s newest project. This is textbook Bordeaux with mushroom and soil on the nose, tart black raspberry and blackberry on the palate and a pleasing, grippy finish.

Pairings: Beef and mushroom empanadas with chimichurri sauce
