For fans of sparkling wine, Cava has long been one of the best deals – The Pizzini family has a rich legacy of winemaking in Franciacorta dating back to the late 1800s. Barone Pizzini was one of the first wineries registered under the Franciacorta DOC in 1967. As pioneers of organic farming, they achieved certification in 2002. In 2021, they produced the first-ever Franciacorta featuring the Erbamat grape, a nearly extinct varietal that was rediscovered in the last 20 years. ‘Animante’ is crafted using the traditional champagne method and ages on the lees for nearly 30 months. This elegant and serious wine is crafted with no dosage showcasing vibrant acidity and aromas of brioche, orchard blossoms, and herbs. A rich, full flavored palate of bruised apple and peach pit lead to a salty, structured finish.
