Fourth generation winemaker Mathias Ruttenstock has, like many of our other Austrian producers, come into his own at his family’s estate. Under the influence of another shop favorite, Anton Bauer, Mathias has gained experience and earned his way into the conversation of great winemakers coming out of the region. As a 2017 Fallstaff award winner, he’s brought new life into his near 50-acre estate and his bright, drinkable wines are absolutely delightful.  A peppery nose with tropical fruit is joined by spritzy acidity up front on the palate. Melon and passionfruit on the palate are mixed with apple and outstanding minerality on the finish. It’s a beautiful entry to what Ruttenstock does.
