It was huge news when legendary Barolo-maker Roberto Conterno purchased the struggling Nervi property in 2018. With the vineyard revitalization and cellar renovation complete, these wines are now living up to their full potential. Wines of Gattinara will always be built on red fruit, iron notes from the volcanic soil, and graceful tannins, but it was two of Nervi’s “grand cru” vinyards that added to the appeal for Conterno. Documents dated 1231 attest to the quality of Valferrana vineyard, which yields wines of supreme elegance and minerality. Aromatics are beautifully lifted with notions of lavender and mint.
